    C! Brake Shoes

Finally started the assembly of my frame and trying to plan ahead. Previous owner attempted to complete a NEW brake job on the car but most parts have surface rust from sitting many years. I have replaced most hardware but the shoes have never been used. The metal just has surface rust and discolored metal. If I just clean them up on my 58, what color are the shoes suppose to be? And. any special paint or color suggested?

c-1 brake shoes natural. even if you elect to paint them cast blast which would come close to the original natural finish, heating the shoes up on heavy prolonged use will result in loss of cast blast as i know of no heat resistant cast blast.. rusted shoes no problem with riveted linings, can be a problem with bonded linings. mike

Mike, thanks for info. Just what I needed to know. These are bonded shoes. Maybe I should just spend a few more dollars for "NEWER" shoes and not worry about these old rusted new ones. Thanks

I'd get a set of riveted shoes. we really don't drive these cars as the general intended(daily) and the rivets won't dislodge like adhesive bonded liners on the shoe metal frames. mike
