Just received the 76 assembly manual from the NCRS bookstore. What should I expect in terms of print quality? Many of the prints are marginal: faint and some of the words not legible... are they always that way or did I get a bad one? Thanks!

Re: assembly manual: quality of reprint
Mike-----
It's VERY normal. The "originals" that the copies that we have today were reproduced from had these deficiencies. Therefore, the copies that were made from them couldn't be any better. Some of the year model AIMs even have an acknowledgement from the publisher of these deficiencies.
We're just lucky that we have what we have of these. They could have ended up in the dumpsters of GM like so many other records before they were saved for posterity. We just have to live with the deficiencies, but it can be very frustrating at times when a certain piece of infomation that's important is unreadable.
Sometimes, the revision block or other information appears to have been "covered over" before copies were made. this was done on the GM "original" copy that the reproductions were made from. I don't know why this was done.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Loren is correct- sort of...
Hi All,
We stopped selling Mid-America's AIMs as of about 4-5 years ago as the quality had greatly deteriorated from those we purchased from Mid-America previously. We have an 1963 AIM purchased from Mid-America circa the early 1980's and it's a high quality reprint.
Whoever reprinted their AIMs in recent years was apparently using nth generation copies as their master instead of whatever earlier version they used in the past. I'm guessing it was cheaper/faster, etc. or maybe they simply didn't have the older copy any longer...?
The different wholesalers we purchase from now are BETTER quality than the Mid-America versions overall. Our AIM quality complaints have dropped significantly since we switched wholesalers. Joe Lucia is right on the money as usual- they are far from perfect, but the hobby is very lucky that any survived at all.
Thanks,
Eric
