    62 Rear Springs?

The rear springs of my 62 have the 4 leaf spring part number. But it has 5 groved leafs. Can someone tell me did 62's have a 5 leaf option?, if so what is the part number. What should the bands which hold the leafs look like?, and what do the end leaf liners look like? Mine have two 3/8" s/steel buttons to keep them alined.

    Re: 62 Rear Springs?

Greg, It is my understanding that the '62's did offer a heavy duty rear spring consisting of 5 leafs. The '57 - '59 part number was 3748143 (reading from my '60's parts book). Very likely the part number was carried through '62. There is a sketch of the heavy duty bands in Noland's Restoration book on pg.189. It looks like a steel strap with a rivet head attached (this strap/rivet combination was also used by spring rebuilders). The regular production springs uses a rubber "U" channel inside a stainless steel binding strap, both wrapped around the spring in two or three places (I can't off the top of my head remember).
