    How many 57 Corvettes?

Does anyone have an educated guess on the number of remaining 57's. I get asked this question at almost every show....Thanks

    Rex,
You may want to pose that question to the Solid Axle guys http://www.solidaxle.org/sacc/main.htm and see where that leads.
    Good luck. . .

Rex, I don't know that anyone has that answer. I am sure there are some educated guesses. Some jokingly say that less base motor cars survived since so many were converted to Fuelies and other High HP cars. You've probably heard the remark there are more FI cars now than the General built. As an owner and enthusiest, I have tried find an answer to your question for a long time. It s a hard question because you have to define what a '57 is. Is a basket case one? Is a body or partial body one or is the best part of a chassis one?

I understand the issue but sometimes I would just settle for someone saying "we guess 50% were attrited through accidents, maybe another 20% just faded away, and suspect that leaves around 30% somewhere between basket cases to bow ties. Myself, I have a 58 basket case. I simply wonder if there are 5000 still around or 600--roughly speaking.

Good point Bill, maybe someone with better insight and more courage will venture an educated guess! If they do, I hope they can offer some explaination of how they arrived at their estimates as well.

50 to 75 % survived--my guess based on how many 53's survived and since the prettier baby was never throw out in the wash, i'd say more 56 and 57s survive than 53's. mike

Then all the 66's should be around.

Mike, I like your thought process! I guess I am a little too pesimistic, my initial thought was that due to the higher HP and torque more were involved in serious accidents and engine fires and were not salvaged, thus a higher percentage may have been lost.

The Automotive Information Clearinghouse does just that, determines how many are left. There number is 935-447-7200.
                  See if these sound right:
                  1) 1971 Corvette Convertible; 7121 made, 2346 left. Seems a little low to me.
                  2) 1957 Buick Roadmaster 4 door hardtop, 4 dr; 34,000 made only 53 left. This seems very low to me, but it isn't a Vette, I guess that's why.

As usual, Mikie is confused. Yes, the 57's were raced and wrecked. Percentage wise, I would guess more 53 & 54 Bathtubs survive than 56/57's. Of course, this is based on absolutely no actual research whatsoever. DC

If your trying to elude that the reason you

survived is because you were a "Pretty Baby", I'm sure those that know you and others who happened to see your mug poking out of your black 62 on CNN last year would certainly beg to differ.

                      nice try though mikey

tracy: the black CNN vet, with my pretty boy mug shot, was a 61 vette, which by the way is prettier than a 62 but not as cute as a 56-57. regards, mike

Rex: Years ago Mike Hunt, from Wisconsin, did a survey on surviving 56/57 Corvettes. He also projected the survival rates. I will look for his information, if you are interested. Sincerely, Mark

62 was the year they got it perfect. they couldn't get it any faster or prettier so they moved on to the C2s

10-12 years ago a survey was made on the '56's. I think 450, out of 3463, were found and the author estimated that approx 750 might have survived.
