Anybody have experience with Ebay, Autotrader, or Cars.com in selling a newer Corvette. I would like to park my convertible on the lawn with the top down and a for sale sign in the window, but the temps here in Maine have been minus 45 with the wind chill. Hemmings,Driveline and the like just don't seem like the way to go for a C-5.
Timing is everything, I sold mine last July in a few days. I put it in the local newspaper and got a lot of callers. I don't think you will find any buyers for it at this time of the year, and if you do you won't get much for it. GM has dropped the prices of all the new Vettes in stock to make way for the C6 so you are dealing with a market that GM has flooded with C5s at give away prices. I am not sure if waiting for warm weather is the right thing to do. If GM needs to drop prices further to get rid of stock it may get worst.
In the last year C5 values have dropped remarkably. I traded in my 17K mile 98 convertible a few months ago and got almost nothing for it. Would have done a little beter selling it myself, of course, but it might have taken a long time. They held their value pretty well for quite a while, but now they are just another used car.
I had a 98 Vert with every option made GM and it had the remainder or a GM warrantee till March of 2004. I got $28,500 last July. I wonder what they are selling for now. I think I sold at the right time. I still have my 96 vert CE but I don't care about resale value because I will never sell it.
Mine also had all available options and a waranty. I got about $5K less for it, but the figure you mention is probably about what I could have realized from a private sale. A year or so ago, they were selling for quite a bit more. Now is a great time to buy a used C5. After the C6 hits the street will be even better.
