Hello everyone! I have replaced the wiper door rod seal on my 70 twice because it pops out of the actuator. I lubed the shaft area and made sure the flange was clean and dry-but the seal will pop out after 2 or 3 cycles.I thought of glueing the flange but wanted to get some advice first. THANKS in advance! Re: wiper door rod seal
Had no troubles with replacing the seal on my '71. Used dry graphite lube on both shaft AND rubber. Lube on rubber helps prevent rubber on rubber wear when seal folds over itself during actuation. If you continue to see boot popping out, try something less permanent than 'glue'.....
Consider getting the rubber and metal orfice clean, then spreading a thin coat of RTV (silicon bathtub caulk) around the interface. That way, if you have to re-work again, the adhesive is easy to remove.- Top
