    327/300hp Cam Specs

Can anyone tell me the cam specs for a 327/300hp cam are? I lost my cam card that came with it and I am having trouble finding it online. Thanks.

A search of Yahoo brings up this site that has several cams listed.

It depends which year 327/300 that you're talking about. 1962-66 327-300hp used camshaft GM #3733431 (cast GM #3732798) and 1967-68 used GM #3896929 (cast GM #3896930).

The early cam had lift of .399"I/.399"E and duration of 300 degreesI/300 degrees E

The later cam had lift of .390"I/.410"E and duration of 310 degrees intake/320 degrees exhaust

You may find varying specs for these camshafts from other sources. That's because different conventions were/are used to describe them.

        Re: 327/300hp Cam Specs

Best I can do for the 929 cam (late 300 HP) is .050" lobe rise duration:
        196/202, centerlines 108/116, LCA 112, lobe lifts .260/.273.

Like Joe said the first design 300 HP cam is no longer available, but the
929 will give essentially identical operating characteristics, with slightly better torque bandwidth.

The duration numbers that Joe mentioned are based on GM's cryptic and never published measurement technique and can't be compared to modern cams' "advertised duration", which is usually speced per SAE J604d that specifies the timing points and duration at .006" valve lift.

Based on SAE J604d the 929 duration would probably be near 250. Duntov SAE J604d duration (based on my measurements): 270/270; LT-1 277/293; 30-30 290/298.

The L-79 duration (.050" lifter rise) is 221/221, which would probably yield about 270 SAE J604d duration.

          Scott,
These are the actual measurements taken at 0.004" tappet lift from a Sealed Power replacement cam (CS274) for a 327/300.
          IO 15 BTDC
          IC 63 ABDC
          EO 61 BBDC
          EC 27 ATDC
          258I/268E Advertised Duration
          Intake Lift @ Cam 0.2597"
          Exhaust Lift @ Cam 0.2735
