    C2 Spindle Supports called "yoke"

Are the later "large ear" rear spindle supports avail. from GM Parts?

I assume they will work on my '63.

A parts book dated 5-80 lists a "yoke" and a "flange" along with spindles in group 5.806 - Can't be what I am looking for because there are no right and left side numbers. Comments?

    Thanks, Tom D.

    C2/C3 Spindle Supports

    Tom,

The supports for 63-74 were part number: 3820643 (LH); 3820644 (RH).
The supports for 75-82 were part numbers: 348103 (LH); 348104 (RH).

None of these are available from GM. Very rarely does an NOS example of the 75-82 spindle support show up on e-bay. Rarer still does an NOS example of the 63-74 support show up.

Re: C2 Spindle Supports called "yoke"

        Tom-----

As Gary mentioned, none of the spindle supports are available from GM anymore. The 75-82 style supports replaced the 63 and 64-74 supports for SERVICE about 25 years ago.

The original 63 supports were different than the 64-74. They were GM PART #3820643, left side, and GM PART #3820644, right side. I've forgotten the casting number used on these pieces, but they can be easily identified by the lack of "webbing" between the "forks". The 64-74 and 75-82 supports have the "webbing". The 64-74 or 75-82 supports can be used to replace the 63 supports, although either would be "incorrect".

Although none of the supports are available from GM, good used examples are available easily in the used market, EXCEPT for the 63-only style.

Thanks Joe (Plus early/late 63 comments)

Thanks - I've noted the '64 style on a late '63. Also, I happen to have one from an early '63. See www.midvette.homestead.com

            Tom-----

Yes, I believe that late 63 did use the 64-74 style spindle supports. Also, it may be that the casting number and part number for the early 63 supports and the late 63 through 74 supports were the same. The drawing may simply have been revised to add the webbing. In any event, as I've checked further I can't find any difference in PART numbers for the early 63 and late 63 through 74 supports.

Can you see the casting number on the early 63 support that you have?

Re: Thanks Joe (I didn't forget, but)

I cannot see the number on the assembly in my barn. I know where there is another old style (early 63) and I may visit that place this week. Looks like the number ends in the number 4, but consider that a guess at this point...
