    C1 Powerglide Rebuild Help

I need a procedure for removal of the output shaft from my 60 Powerglide. The book indicates that the assembly is removed from the front but the speedo driving gear (pressed on the output shaft?) prevents removal of the rear pump and removal of the shaft. My guess is that I must use a puller to remove the gear but my preliminary attempt to pull it were in vain.

My book does not even mention the speedo driving gear. HELP!

Yes you need a special Kent Moore (or similar) tool to remove the speedo gear. If I recall you will also need a special puller to remove and reinstall the shaft bearing (terms may not be correct as I don't have access to my manuals). The whole proceedure is outlined (with tools shown I think) in the 56 Chevy passenger manual.

Sorry in my haste I had 1956 on my mind as I rebuilt a 56 Powerglide for my Bel Air. Info should be the same or close to it.

I don't know what your doing? trying to remove the driven gear or rebuilding the trans.? BUT!
There are long pullers that will remove the driven gear while in the car. OR
The 60 PG rear pump has a aligement slot that you must turn the shaft to, then you could turn the rear case unit virtual tell the drive gear meets the rear pump , them using a block of wood against the out put end shaft HIT it with a 5lb hammer and drive it off. What are you doing??? nice to know!

I ment to also say that you need to remove the rear bearing clip. The rear bearing and rear pump do not need to be removed to do what I mentioned.

Thanks for the info. I have successfully removed the output shaft using a very long puller to remove the speedo drive gear first.
