Odometer/Trip Meter

On a midyear that has a speedometer that works but a odometer and trip mileage that doesn't work..............could it be the cable????? The easy fix is the cable replacement but beyond that requires the cluster coming out.....Right??
Please tell me there's a easy way to correct this ailment..........Thanks, Bill

No, if the speedometer works, then the problem with the odometer/trip odo is NOT the speedo drive cable. The problem is internal to the speedometer and will require removal of the cluster and subsequent removal of the speedo head for repair. Likely, one or more of the internal odometer drive gears is damaged.

And unless someone has reproduced them lately, you will not find the metal gear to replace it. The plastic ones are useless. If you use a plastic one, which is the only thing that has been available for many years, you need to dissable the trip odometer. It will wear out in no time and you will be back where you started.

"The Speedo is next"...

was the warning I was given when I told my local COrvette repair guy that my Trip OD didn't work. He was right, a hundred miles later the speedo started making that "Man I feel real bad" noise. I disconnected it, but it was too late. My cluster is at Corvette Instrument service (Roger Scott) for restoration. He uses metal gears!
