    1963 Windshield

    O.K., moving on...
Installed a new correct dated glass on my '63 Coupe last spring after the original was destroyed (please do not ask how). I thought that at least this opportunity would allow me to cure, or curb the leaking problem. WRONG!!
I no longer look forward to washing the car, well maybe just a little less. What is the proper recommended procedure for the installation of a '63 Coupe windshield?
Can the '63 only molding clips be substituted with '64-'67?(Drilling of frame). Is it recommended?
What sealant should be used? There were few if any options.
Thanks for all and any help!!!

    Re: 1963 Windshield

Its actually unusual for it to leak around the windsheild. Most leaks are somewhere else. The factory use a non hardning material under the channel that goes on the body, commonly refered to as dum-dum. After the windsheild is installed there was a little sealer injected up under the weatherstrip that contacts the windshield. You can use the later clips if you also use the later lower trim.

Are you sure that the leak is not in the

Re: Are you sure that the leak is not in the

I must have really messed up in the new installation. Before, with the original glass it leaked like most other mid-yrs. soaking the carpet on either side at the footwells. Only once during a particular heavy rain while driving on the highway from a chapter meet, I experienced water leaking from the top inside of the glass into the cockpit. It was dripping from the upper inside molding.
Now after putting in the new windshield, I can not even wash the car without water seaping in at both of these locations. Loren, I thought that I did check pretty well the wiper area and I do not think that this is the culprit. The drainage holes were flushed and the area tested. I used the soft windshield sealer on the frame from C.C. and used the rope method to put the glass and weatherstrip in place.
First off, the quality of the repo molding clips are a disaster. I also feel that the repo weatherstrip for the glass leaves much to be desired. It seems that the brunt of the problem originates somewhere with the moldings.
This is why I need to know what the proper sequence for re-installation is.
        I'm missing something easy here.
        Thanks again to all!

p.s. - Thanks Loren. Because of your kindness, I have now been able to trace the history of my car back to 1968!

Just take the trim off and go get a tube of windshield beading seam sealer and caulk all the way around the windshield, filling it level full. Make sure it is the non hardning type. Then get one of those special flat headed applicators and go up under the lip on the glass all the way around. It will not leak.

Thanks Wayne. I'll give this another go sometime soon and definatly follow your advice.. I still feel that the moldings are not closing in on the body securely. There is a gap along the top front edge. The moldings are not bent at all, they just do not fit snug along the roof line for example. Not sure if this is the norm.
