    C-2 Hinges

I removed the hinges from my 63 and replaced the bushings. I am now getting ready to install the the hinges. I have been trying to think of an easy way to install the two upper bolts in the kick panel area. I think it might be difficult to line the hinge up with the holes. I can't actually see the holes because of the location. I am also concerned about dropping a bolt into the bird cage area and having trouble getting it back. Has anyone been there done that? Suggestions would be apreciated. Thanks

Put the hinge back in place and start the two bolts in the door jan. Tighten them most of the way but leave them loose enough to move the hinge a little. Stuff a rag in the birdcage section at the floor to catch the bolts when you drop them which you will. I use a socket and 4" extension to start both bolts. Do the pass side first as it was easier and will give you practice.

The bolts are pointed so they will self align if you leave them loose untill you get them all started. Use a piece of masking tape. Put a strip on the bolt head and jam it into your socket. It will hold on till you get the bolt started.

You might also tie a slip knot with some

6 lb. test monofilament fishing line. Snug the loop under the head and leave yourself 2 or 3 feet hanging into the cockpit in case you need to retrieve a dropped bolt.

Cut the excess off or just give it a big yank when tight. It will break where the line is trapped under the bolt head.
