    SWEET RIDE MR. BRAATZ

Finally had a minute to puruse my Restorer magazine last night and got a glimps of your machine. Very nice indeed!

    I too like those rims.

Chuck thanks So many people don't realize how many options the General offered for Corvettes of any year. Look close at the pic. union gas company did in 1954 using a 54 Corvette with K.H wire wheels on it. I feel that it is so sad that NCRS only recognizes a Corvette as it left the factory. Only NCRS of all the cars clubs in the world do that. If other car clubs did the same as NCRS you would never see a restored say 55 Chevy with a Continental kit, my 56 chevy convertible even had a rain sender , that put the soft top up if it rained, because they were all dealer installed as many things were, not by the factory. G.M sold luggage, shavers and so many neat great things for Corvette. If you think Corvette parts are high ! the 12V shaver goes for $600.00 , luggage for the 78 vett goes for $1000's and so on. The reason my 55 gets attention over other 53 to 55 ( if you've seen one you've seen them all) are the options that fascinates people and makes it stand out.

Roy, I'd like to thank you again for the response to my starter question last weekend. I'd also like to compliment you on your 55. For those who might not have seen it in the March issue of Vette magazine there are some great photographs there. It's a beautiful car.

"I feel that it is so sad that NCRS only recognizes a Corvette as it left the factory. Only NCRS of all the cars clubs in the world do that. ... they were all dealer installed as many things were, not by the factory."

Well said, Roy. NCRS is similar in that respect to several vintage racing groups, who had the idea that all vintage race cars started life as a brand new car turned race car. Reality is that many race cars became such after the street cars were wrecked or aged to lower the value.

Many forget that NCRS was about the "restoration, preservations, and history of Corvette". That history didn't occur as they rolled onto the parking lot in St. Louis. They are at that point, in fact, no different than any other assembly line product, like a toaster, refrigerator, or TV, or any Chevy truck, Ford Mustang, or Studebaker, if you want to keep it in the vehicle world. What made them different was how people individualized them, drove them, showed them, raced them, and lived them. Dealer options were part of that.

Corvette owners formed clubs. How many 3/4 ton Chevy truck owners did?

By strictest NCRS rules, no Grand Sport could be judged, the early '60s Sebring racers, the '67 LeMans coupe, and a host of others. But those are the very cars that affected Corvette history the most.

Yet another potential chapter to be added to flight judging Roy.

I think that the 15,000 plus readers whenever they all get their "Restorer" will judge your car (as did I) far better than any group with clip boards, manuals and loupes ever will!

Beauty is beauty no matter what the year or level of restored Corvette we own.

Fix em good, Show em off, Drive em hard, And don't get caught.

Thats my motto and I'm sticking to it
