I have a mid year coupe base motor nothing special, the car has had part of the paint stripped and left outside in the rain for 10 years, with a tarp on it at times, The body is water loged, My question, is it time to knock it in the head and part it out ?? its worth $35,000.00 or so done, the cost to do the car is $22,000.00 to $24,000.00 paint interior running gear etc. if the car was a 67 400-435 hp or a 53 or some kind of special car it would be worth saving, parting it out will help others to complete there projects. I think I can get enough out of it to buy a better start or a done car. is this a crime ??? PLEASE DONT CONTACT ME TO BUY THE CAR OR PARTS FROM IT

Re: restore or part out midyear coupe
John,
I guess it boils down to what your goals are. Although it may make more financial sense to part it out, I think it would be a shame to let another restorable mid-year slip away. If restoring it is not in your plans - why not try to sell it complete and, possibly, let someone else realize their dream of having a nice Corvette. Not a sermon - just my 2 cents. Steve- Top

Re: restore or part out midyear coupe
Sell as is for restoration. I don't see that many coupes around and they're beautiful. It would be a shame to part out a rebuildable car. Check this one out: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=723587 Not everyone would or could take on a project of this magnatude. Most would have parted it out. Instead it became a family project and now there's another nice Vette on the road. That's my sentimental opinion.- Top

Re: restore or part out midyear coupe
I've been looking at c3 projects to stash away for another day and I say any corvette that has a good solid birdcage is worth saving, but then my first x-wife said I was out to save every corvette from the junk yard.
Maybe a grand sport project?

What you have is...
Someones Dream.
Recently at a car show, a young man looked my ’66 coupe over very closely, and finally approached me. “Could I ask you a few questions?”, he ask shyly. We talked for 20 minutes and had a great time. He sat in my car, and had his friend take several pictures of him behind the wheel. I don’t know who had the better time- Him or Me.
Like him, there are many people who would love to have a midyear Corvette, but the thought of spending $25,000 up for a "toy" is simply not an option. However, there are people who could purchase a $3,500 "shell of a Corvette", and over a period of years make small investments and eventually reach their dream of being a proud Corvette owner.
It's your call John, Part it out and someone's Dream is Gone.- Top

I have seen Mustangs...
Worse than that get restored. In fact, I saw a 69 mach1 just the other day which came in; no front clip, no interior, quarter panels cut off, engine out. It's a base model 351 2V, but it's getting the full show restoration. I think the 'Vette in your photo has more potential, and would be very doable for someone willing to get his hands dirty.- Top
