C-1 Exhaust help needed ASAP

Building a 59 270HP and ordered the oval mufflers and the JG says I should have round ones. It seems I was told off road exhaust was not avalible until 61 or 62. What is correct as I am ready to put exhaust on. Thanks for your help.

For what it's worth...

Chevy introduced the round mufflers in 1955, although they may have used up some oval stock that year. I'd grab any excuse to use the round ones, the car will sound great when you "get on it", and still sound surprisingly mellow when you cruise down your street on a spring morning. The crosstube style headpipe will add some power, be sure to use it if called for, I'd be tempted to use one even if not original and eat the points.

The round muflers were definetly used in 1957.

Bob is right.... I had a 57 F.I. back in '58 and they were round.. In 1961 I took car nto local chevy dealer and got it back, they installed the ovals on it.Damn....
