The left side fresh air vent grill on my 66 non air cond. roadster is broke at the high stress point at the flange that secures the cable. I fixed it once with JB Weld for plastic because it was broke when I bought the car but during installation the high bending load posed by the cable broke it at the same place. Any one successfully fixed one of these grilles? A new repop is $50! The next time I'll need to install the clip that attaches the cable to the hood cable to relieve some of the bending load before I make the final connections.
dave: if i were in your boots, i'd get one of the repos. i'd feel more comfortable with a plastic repo than an original piece of plastic. by all means let us know what you tink of the repro.mike
I used the repo from CC, it was pretty much an exact duplicate. The hole for the cable clamp screw has to be drilled in it. I could not find the clamp that is supposed to be used to hold the vent cable to the hood release cable. I just used a wire tie and it worked just fine.
I have a 66 coupe non-air also and had to replace the air vent grill. I purchased the grill from one of the well know parts suppliers and was not pleased with the product and especially at $69 a pop. The repro was "thicker" than the original which clashed with the fuse box and I had to file a couple of the vent slats down so as to make it fit. This was the driver's side but the passenger's side fit like a glove. Also, you can purchase the "clamp" for the hood cable/vent cable from Corvette Central. Good Luck!
