Lots of people spending outrageous sums of money yesterday and today. For those of you who didn't get to watch it you can review on their website. A 55 Chevy street rod for over $200,000.00 couple of Corvette's over $100,000.00. WOW.
Terry
What amazes me is all the "plastic rods" that are going for big bucks. They used to call'em kit cars. I have nothing against them. I think they're really cool, but $100,000? I think I like my genuine GM plastic car.
I've always said I don't expect to get anything back for my labor on these things. I might be up to about $1.00 an hour. Whats up with a $400K street rod?
Larry
What's the history on the guy with the yellow jacket? He was interviewed
right after purchasing the 69 Z28, he had already bought the 53 for 100k.
He also bought the 67 BB tripower. He stated he owned a Chevy Dealership
and was fired 2 years ago. Does anyone have the rest of the story.
He stated he has a corvette collection.
His total purchases were about 360k plus commisions.
I wonder what this guy did, does, while collecting his unemployment.

I just finished this "Kit Car" after 3 years. Think I can get 100k? I don't think it matters at B-J. If it can roll or be pushed up to the line, someone with more money then brains is going to flash it.
Re: i wonder if the dumbocrates that are running f
Nah, they'd use it as yet another reason to raise taxes on "the rich" to get votes from all those people who are "unemployed because of Bush's economic policies" or "undocumented workers".
I hate to say that, but it's true, from what I have seen. Just a few observations, FWIW:
1. The SPEED Channel announcers should attend more than a few NCRS seminars to sharpen their Corvette knowledge base.
2. Black cars with lots of chrome definately cause a feeding frenzy.
3. Brock Yates dislikes "Dual Ghias", the "Rat Pack", and people of Italian ancestry.
4. Anything with "Hemi" power will bring big bucks.
5. A strikingly beautiful ("only 2 known to exist with this color combo, with leather seats")'67 427/435 'Vert, black, black, red, red stinger, pipes, boltons, fully documented, blah, blah, blah, brought less money than a Mustang, a 1955 (tripleblack) Nomad, a 'Cuda, and the usual array of Euro rarities.
6. The fellow with the British accent called it "nitroglycerine paint".
7. There was a VERY high percentage of Corvettes to the total number of cars in the auction.
8. I wish I was that lucky dog who bought the four Callaway Corvettes.
9. I wish that I had been there.
10. I very much enjoyed the entire three day presentation.
joe: if you go the BJ auction next year and get a bidding pass, DO NOT TAKE THEM UP ON THE FREE BAR. a member of the local antique car club went to the atlantic city auction 2 years ago, got bidding pass, got poop-faced, and bought a caddy limo. next day he realized none of his garages would house the hippo so he put it back thru the auction the day after he bought it.. those free scotch and waters all day friday cost him over two grand when he sold the caddy on saturday. we still get on his case about that one. mike
I am definately not the smartest bottle in the bar, but I would never drink 'n bid. I cannot afford it.
Far as I can tell, that approach only worked for me ONCE, at the blackjack tables of three casinos.........but that's a long story.
to blow up was the leaking of gasoline thru the 3 X 2 carb setup into the engine oil. drilling a 1/8" hole the fuel tank cap to relieve the pressure that built up because the mufflers heated up the fuel.
In watching the auctions recently
The people annoucing have no real clue about what they are talking about.
I heard 1 car with a 440 Hemi ??
Another 100%, all orig mid 60's car with a LS1 - how's that 100% orig and stock...crap like that - misleading.
My opinion they are all hype - few may know cars but even fewer really KNOW them
I found it very dispointing to watch.
Guys buying stuff that they had no clue - I agree with above
more money than brains.
Funny - guy will show you the car - then you start looking, isnt even close to what he is claiming or being correct.
