I agree with your comments. Thank goodness for Mike Joy, who admitted to be an old muscle car owner and follower. He was a great addition to the staff this year and on the ball most of the time. Did you hear one man ask what the funny-looking plug wires were on the 1967 435 car? They constantly referred to "all original totally restored" models.

Nothing has changed. Buyer beware! That applies wherever you are or whoever you're doing business with.

------If the fellow you are reffering to bought the yellow cross-ram Z-28,the consensus was that he bought a completely made up car. A few people in the bidders bar were referring to the builder of that car as "The Clonerator" because of that vehicle and others going back several years!!!!!!.........Bill S

            Re: Barrett/Jackson/I was there

I went to Barrett (got stuck in Chicago on the return leg, but thats another story). on Sat AM, there was a silver-blue '58 new restoration that I considered buying. Very nice, most things right, but the pad numbers were ground off. Seller told me that this was common on old cars (whatever) and that the block and date code was right. There was also a typical front end repair shadow, that would only get worse over time.
Anyhoo, I loved the car and made a bid early... by the time my bid was recognized, it jumped nearly $20,000 and the floor guy pointed to me and said, "65 to you." Naturally, I fainted. The car sold for over $70,000 plus 8% buyer premium. I wanted to ask the buyer if he knew about the numbers or repair, but what would be the point?
Anyway, it was incredible fun, but most Vettes simply sold for foolish money, and I had to be diligent in not getting caught up in the intoxicating atmosphere.

What do you mean, "so many blew up?" There's more available now than in '67.

The anouncer said he "looks like he should be in proffesional wrestling". He actually wasn't. The funny thing was, his last name turned out to be "Rastle" or some such thing.

                    Steve,

I took a good look at that 58 car myself but didn't look at the pad. It was a very nice restoration but most NCRS meets have several C1's that are better. It also had a 59/60 trunk on it. I was amazed at the bidding and subsequent price, but it is even more amazing w/ a blank pad. The red 62 FI car that was next to it sold for 93K on the block. It was a nice car and pretty correct, however had no NCRS or Bloomington awards. That struck me as "all the money". Color means a lot at Barrett Jackson. Its a great place to sell a nice Corvette but don't go there to buy one. All that aside it is truly the Super Bowl of car auctions. If you are looking for a nice driver antique there were some great bargains there on Thursday and a few on Sunday. Its a real treat to see the variety and quality of the cars they attract and the event itself is outstanding. Kudos to Craig Jackson.

I agree, Dave, the car was so nice looking, I was suprised when I found the pad and the fender repair. The seller put an NCRS license plate on the front and said it was "assembled" by NCRS people, whatever that means. The red car you saw? Same seller. Didya catch the black lace undies hanging on the mirror? My wife thought that was pretty classy.
I saw no real Corvette deals except for the 60 for $27,500... but the chrome and paint were horrible and there's still the 8% buyers premium... The event was awesome to view, though, I would recommend the trip to anyone.

                        Steve,
The lace panties or a thong on the 62 was pretty far out there. I guess some people think it catches peoples eyes. If that fellow owned both cars he is one happy camper getting over 160K for the pair. When I decide to sell my 61 red FI car I know where I'm going to take it. Good Luck with your search.
