    freeze plug removal

    I have a replacement block in my 64 vette and the oil vent tube was not put in, there is a freeze plug in where it should go. I`m not very mechanical so am i going to get into any trouble knocking this freeze plug out to install the oil vent tube.

    You're lucky to at least have a replacement block that has the hole for the tube.

    Removing these soft plugs is sually not too difficult and can be done by several means. A few of these include:

    1) Drive one side of the plug downward so that the plug "pivots" in the center and the other side rises up. Then, using the "risen up" end, lever the plug out of the hole using a crow bar or similar tool and/or a pair of channel lock pliars;

    2)drill the center of the freeze blug for a self-tapping type bolt. Install the bolt and use it to lever the plug out or use a slide hammer on the bolt to pull the plug straight out.

    I use method (1).
