While at Bloomington, I bought 4 69-73 wiper arms, just to get several of the plastic clips that retain the washer tubing. These wiper arms were not in the greatest shape. They were laying in a large box along with a few hundred others. While cleaning them, I noticed that one definitely had a flat/semi flat black phosphate/oxide plated finish, while the others were flat/semi flat black painted. On the plated one, I couldn't remove any finish with lacquer thinner or enamel reducer. It was in amazingly good condition after I cleaned the debris off of it. What is the correct finish for the wiper arm.....black phosphate/oxide plated or black painted ? Any help appreciated. Chuck

Re: 69-73 Wiper Arm Finish
As this is the same method by which I came up with my washer tube plastic clips, I understand the 'drill' you've been through. I too have seen painted arms as well as black oxide finish. I cannot offer a 'correct' answer, but my hunch is the method changed over time (MY as well as factory original vs. service spare).
We know from the handful of original cars we've looked at, the washer tubes (brass) were also black when factory fresh. Since, we have dissimilar metals here, my 'gut' tells me originals for early Sharks were painted instead of being plated.
Personally, I'd give full credit for a semi-flat black surface finish regardless of paint/plate because I've seen the same dicotemy as you. But, I'm just one judge and when my knowledge limits are exceeded, I give the benefit of the doubt to the owner....- Top

Re: 69-73 Wiper Arm Finish
Hi Morgan. Sorry but I don't have any extra's to sell. I still need several more to make up a set for my car. Paragon has been talking about reproducing these for years. Don't know if they ever will. These clips are extremely hard to find. Happy Hunting !!! Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: 69-73 Wiper Arm Finish
Hi Roberto; I THINK that there are 3 types of clips. On both the passenger and drivers side, the washer tube is secured near the base by 2 round black plastic clips which push over the wiper arm. As the washer tube runs out the wiper arm, it is secured by one or two heavier black plastic clips. On the drivers side, this clip/clips allows the tube to run along the top, flat, surface of the wiper arm. On the passengers side this clip/clips allows the tube to run along the upper thin edge of the wiper arm. So, I guess at least one of each type of the heavier clips that hold the tube to the arm, and four of the smaller round clips which secure the tube to the base would make a complete set. Others might elaborate. Hope this helps. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: 69-73 Wiper Arm Finish
Roberto,
I am at the Boston Regional and this topic was discussed informally at one of the cars being judged. The concensus was that three clips came on the drivers side while four clips came on the passenger side. I'll try to get some more details tomorrow on differences between each of the clips.
