A couple of maybe dumb questions I'd like to run by someone who's been there - done that?
Does a car that has non-original ball-joints that are riveted on, get the same deduction as a car that has non-original ball-joints that are bolted on?
Same goes for tie-rod ends and idler arm. If non-original, is there the same point deduction as if they are non-original, and have a shot of cast blast or something on them to prodcut them from the elements/rust.
Lastly, if the only deductions so far are for the above items and perhaps a couple of minor ones here and there, and the original rear, driveshafts, halfshafts and tranny also have a shot of cast blast or something on them, would it still be possible to make Top Flight. (Oh yea, also, I don't want to smudge up my engine and exhausts manifolds with overspray and orange paint either).
All major components of the car are the correct part/date codes. All hardware has the correct finish and headmarks. The car will be painted with lacquer. However, wear items (Brakes and steering mainly) I am replacing for safety sake as I plan to drive the car.
Like I said, maybe a dumb question, but do I have a chance? I'd like to have the car judged and this site and the judging manual have been invaluable to me in my project so far. But I'm at a junction where I need to make some final decisions that will have longer term impact.
ps: I realize there are many areas I could loose points on and until the car is actually judged these are all just as the subject line says, "hypothetical" (if I spelled it right ;-)
