    C-1 Distributors

Hi all, Could anyone tell me what differences (if any) there are between a '56 # 1110879 and a '57 # 1110891 distributor? There seem to be a lot of #891's around and not so many #879's. I wondered if I could use a #891 that I have on my 56 225HP. I would also like to use a breakerless ignition set up but they only list them for 1957 and up with distributor caps having windows.
    Thanks in advance.
    Steve
ps- I finally recieved my driveline today!

the 891 will fit but , on the judging field, its lack of a vac advance canister will raise eyebrows . keep looking for the 56 with vac advance as well as centrif advance. mike

      Steve,
Mike meant to say, it will fit fine on your 225HP and judges will not blink an eye because your '56 225 HP engine did not come with vacuum advance! Regards,

No ! you have a 265 engine . The cam has a relief cut out at the back lop , the crank rear bearing has one oil hole at the top, the #879 Dist. bottom side is flat.
The 283 engine cam is not cut, rear main bearing has two oil holes, Dist's have no cut out.
The 265 engine is like no other V8 engine.

I have to agree with Roy. Do not use a 891 carb on a stock 265 engine. The top of the motor will not oil. There is a significant difference in the casting at the base of the shaft on ALL distributors used in 265s that include a flat area and an extra oil hole. 225HP engines used either a 872 or 879 distributor, depending on when built.

              And obviously ...

when I typed carb, I was thinking distributor.
