I considering purchasing 65 Covette with fuel injection. Is this a bad decision due to problems I've heard about keeping it tuned and running correctly?

Re: Fuel Injection? C2
I too had heard some of the samre things. But like anything else with a 40 year old car, things sometimes need a little tweaking. With the right knowledge and a little luck. I was not concerned. Besides, to me, I get a smile on my face everytime I look at it!!! I'm about to reinstall mine after a recent rebuild of both the FI Unit and engine. I Can't wait to hear this thing purr (I hope!).
My only suggestion is to check things out carefully and make sure you know what you are getting. If you are not familiar with FI's, I would suggest getting someone who is to inspect the car. My .02
Good luck,
Joe..

"Joe: Who restored your valve covers? Len "
Don't know Len. They were on the car when purchased. However, they are wrong for the car (Casting flaw), and up close they look like someone shot them with Aluminum Paint.
I have a correct set of valve covers that will be installed after the body is on the car and the engine is broken in. The correct set that I have are of a darker finish and more closely match the FI Unit's finish. It's a little hard to distinquish in the picture, but they are different.

Re: Fuel Injection? C2
I have a 62 with FI. I drive the car on a very regular basis and have no difficulty keeping it in top tune. I am not an FI expert, but I know a couple I can call on if I run into something I can't handle. The FI's are very reliable if properl;y rebuilt and set up. They require little if any "tuning". Most "FI" problems turn out to be ignition related.- Top

Re: Fuel Injection? C2
Bill, I have had the priviledge to put 70k+ miles on a 63. I ran lots of Idaho spud farm dirt through it due to an open gas tank so it wore out some of the internals, but I have to say it is low maintenance and runs like no other induction. I was lucky to have Brian Futo within a short drive up to Boulder at the time so he graciously would help me get it back up when it started limping and also taught me all about it at the same time. I would recommend it as I was never and still am not sorry. Paul- Top

Re: Fuel Injection? C2
Bill,
I have a 1965 FI convertable that I purchased from the original owner in December 1965, it has been a great and very reliable car. I have never had any major problems with it in all those years other than normal maintenance.
I would recommend that you take someone with you who is knows FI vettes.
They do have the power and the sound is fantastic. Good luck.
Regards,
Floyd
