I am in the process of putting a back together a frame off restored '65 coupe l-79. I have the whole dash back in place and everything installed except the radio. Everything was working at one time, now the clock, rear blower, and courtesy lights don't work, but the rest of the cluster, power antenna switch all work. Is there a seperate ground for the above items that are now not working? Or any other suggestions? I was working on my brake light switch under the dash when I noticed that the courtesy lights and clock weren't working, if that has anything to do with it. Any help would be appreciated.
Jeremy,
Is the black lead with the ring terminal from the radio plug connected to the metal reinforcement? I think this is the main ground for all the stuff that's out. A serrated washer between it and the reinforcement will help. Also there is the ground spade on the top of the cluster, which you may have knocked loose. This is from memory and for a 67, but maybe it will help.
I had the same problem with my '64 coupe. Not sure if the wiring changed much between '64 and '65, so take this with a grain of salt. On my '64, the courtesy lights, clock, turn signals and brake lights are all on the same circuit. In my case the fuse kept blowing (you did check for a blown fuse, right?) I got everything working again by changing out the flasher. Not sure if this just treated a symptom or solved the the problem, but so far so good.
