    67 interior paint question

I am restoring the inside of my '67 it is ermine white with a bB (414) interior. the question involves the painting of hte shifter console and the radio screen.
    1. shifter console - there is a small groove between the chrome edges of the console and the textured flat interior area. Is this groove painted or does it remain chrome. I tried to find this out in orlando but was not successful. most restorers said not to paint but there were 2 "unrestored" 67s and I couldn't tell for sure due to some dirt in this area.
    2. radio screen - I have been told that this is painted with same paint as the brake and shifter console yet on my car and on the cars in orlando the screen seemed darker and a little flatter than the semi-gloss dye on the console and brake.
Any help would be appreciated. would like to paint this only once.
    thanks - joe

As for the groove, I think that it was intended to be unpainted, but the process was not perfect and some overspray is seen. The dash paint is definitely the darker almost flat color.

You have three choices for interior color. Dark Bright Blue, somehow that sounds funny, 9972 LH/ 13228, 3% gloss. Medium Bright Blue 9271 LH/ 13223. This one is 60% gloss, and Bright Blue 9223 L/ 13071. This one is 3% gloss. The first number is Dupont the second is PPG/Ditzler. Now for which one to use. Certainly the Dark Bright Blue is the one on the lower windshield trim. The dash is low gloss so it is probably the 9223L/ 13071, but mine, which is original and never repainted, looks darker than expected. It may be a result of age. I know I had a heck of a fight with a judge in 1982 at Cypress Gardens. He insisted that the pads and the dash were all the same color. Now we all know better than that, but he never was convinced. We have seen so many restores that we forget what original looks like. Those that still mix lacquer should be able to mix it by formula. Someone like Auto Color Library.

Thanks Wayne - I have a can of spray dye 414 from long island corvette and it matches well the color on the brake and shifter console but seems brighter than the dash and current radio screen. In my case also the dash and radio seem a little darker and flatter than the rest and definatly darker (just a little) than the padding over the guages and glove box. Since the dash still looks good and the radio screen looks pretty good also, maybe I should just leave well enough alone. I may get a can of the 9223L/13071 or the 9972LH/13228 just to see how it looks. It sounds like the bottom line is that the radio screen should match the top of the dash and not the brake or shifter console. Right?
          thanks - joe

Thanks for the info - it helps alot. And it fits with what I observed with the unrestored cars in Kissimmee.
I may just leave it alone.
