    C1 Powerglide Shifter specifications needed.

I need the dimensions of the mounting holes on a C1 powerglide shifter assembly. I'm converting a 1959 Chevy powerglide tailhousing to accept a shifter (that I have not located yet) and I'll be braze welding three hubs to accept it.

I've been searching for the correct tailhousing but so far I've come up empty and actually I think I can create a pretty good replica with the correct information.

If someone has a powerglide out of the car and can take some measurements it would be greatly appreciated. I need the location of the three mounting points in relation to the end of the tailhousing and in relation to the centerline of the output shaft. I have a couple of photos that show the embossments but I don't have enough detail to do an accurate reproduction.

i would guess the pg shifter location, in relation to distance from back of block and in reference to tailshaft centerline, would be identical to that of a corvette c-1 3 speed shift mounting of the vet 3 speed tail housing so if you have a 3 spped handy , use it to get the dimensions. btw, the shifter hole in the floorpan is a good bit larger than needed for shifter movements. if all else fails., bolt pass pg tailhousing to pg and attach to engine , place in chassis and then you'll be able to guesstimate location of pg shifter on tailhousing based on hole in floorpan. if the above doesn't work , i have a 57 vette PG with orig tailhousing in the barn but its so cold and snowy here, that i wouldn't be able to get to it till spring.good luck, mike

      Re: C1 Powerglide Shifter question

I do have a 3 speed available but from what I've seen in pictures and illustrations the mounting holes appear to be different. The auto shifter looks like it has a large nut on the backside that fits between the embossments and the 3 speed embossments are not located far enough above the tailhousing for this nut to fit.

      I still need help!

        Re: C1 Powerglide Shifter question

I had a turbo 350 transmission in my 63. Someone fabricated a piece of flat stock to the proper shape and welded nuts to back of it for the shifter mounting. It worked pretty good. The Ecklers catalog shows an automatic shifter for 57-61 Corvettes. They might be able to get you the information you need.
