    C1 Spindle Help - I'm stuck!

I have the king pins pressed out of the knuckles and have everything apart except the bushings that are in the spindles. I know that they are supposed to be loose but they don't seem to understand that. After 40 years they have fused themselves in place. Is heat the best method for getting them out? I am concerned with damage to the bore if I just try to press them out. I have tried anti-seize with no results. As always, I appreciate everyone's help. Thanks, Eric

ifnyou don't trust yourself in chisseling the bushings out, take a rat tailed file and file away bushing till you just touch the spindle "meat". then you should be able to pry the bushing out. mike

Ditto on Mike's approach. On my 56, I dissassembled my hacksaw and re-installed the blade with the blade threaded through the kingpin bushings. A gentle sawing through each bushing and they easily are pushed out. Good Luck, Steve

Ditto the two above. Remember the spindles are pretty hard and the bushings are pretty soft.

That's the metod for removing any type of internal fitting whether it is a bushing, nipple or whatever.

Take the hacksaw blade and slowly and evenly cut down until your either close or just touching the spindle.

This will take the external force away from the bushing and make it more receptive to removal.

There have been times that I have cut opposite notches to better relieve the outward pressure.

Then it's a matter of tapping the bushings out.

Works every time and no heat required

          Chuck
