97 corvette - high pitched sound

    97 corvette - high pitched sound

    Hi,

    I just purchased a used 1997 corvette (automatic). I love it except for 1 problem. When I start the car there is a high pitched sound driving me crazy. It is hard to tell where it is coming from but it seems to either be on the left door or behind...

    This high pitched sound changes pitch if I step on the break or hit the automatic window button. Some type of eletrical problem???

    It seems to go away after about 5-10 minutes of driving it.

    Has anyone heard of this?? or have any ideas??

      Hi,

      Funny question, but could it be the infamous fuel pump buzz that 97's are know for? The pump is behind the drivers seat, and is known to make noise when cold. I believe there is a recall on these if annoying enough.

              I think Patrick is right, is probley the fuel pump. The factory did issue a service bulletn on this problem. Check with your Chevy service manager.

                      I too have a 1997 C5. The other posts are correct, the whine is from the fuel pump. Some dealers will replace the pump if you know just how to persuade them. There has been a GM service bulletin issued and that should help to state your cause. The bulletin can probably be found at www.c5registry.com
