    63 Strut Rod Bracket Question

Below is a pick of my Strut Rod bracket. As you can see, there are two very thin metal squares on the bottom on each end. They were pretty bent up but I was able to straigten them. They are however a little cracked where they are welded. No surprise, it's a pretty chintzy setup.

Before I weld these, is this correct? I doubt someone would add something like this later on but I have not seen them before. Personally I would rather just remove them. But in doing so, would that cause a point loss in a judging event assuming they are factory?

    Thanks,

    Joe..

They are OE, and I believe their function is as heat shields to protect the rubber bushing in the strut rod from radiated exhaust heat.

If you measure their thickness and get some similar gage sheet steel scrap, you can probably cut out new ones with tin snips and tack weld them on.

Yes the thin metal heat shields pictured on your strut rod bracket are correct and yes if you choose to remove them expect point deductions when judged on originality.

Re: 63 Strut Rod Bracket - Thin Metal

My June '63 roadster has the thin metal. Can look at one other (much earlier) car in this neighborhood tomorrow.
