    Quanta belt products

Can anyone tell me how well the quanta fan belts stand up to judging? They say they are the right ones but are they really?

    Bill,
I've had many judged and can never recall any deduction. Some don't like the reliability potential of them but certainally the cosmetics are great.

      Bill,
I installed them on my '67 in 1994 for judging. In Flight, PV and Duntov judging, no point deductions were taken. They're still on the car with about 750 miles and no problems so far, knock on wood.

My 72 LT1 had Quanat belts. Full points all the way around at a Regional and two locals.

They do fine for judging. I've gone National and Regional as has Dave, without a problem.

I have 2000 miles or so on the 72, the judged car, which rarely sees over 3000 rpm. No problems.

In my experience, though, they don't take well to 6000+ rpm. They also will stretch slightly with wear, so watch your adjustment closely.

The 71....well, they flipped off, and it was fun. But when they flip off and the water pump therefore stops spinning, your temp will go up quickly. Don't ask how I know this. Even worse is when your reproduction radiator cap won't hold full pressure (which of course you don't realize) and doesn't like the whole situation of the belt flipping off and temps going up. Hot coolant will stain your newly painted orange engine very quickly. Don't ask how I know this one, either. All in the space of a few miles.

Thanks for the advice guys and I won't ask about those events only if no one wants to know why it costs over $150 to fix 2 inches of easy to get at vacuum line. I'm gonna put the belts on my toy and keep driving it on weekends. It's a 78 L-48 so I don't even dream about 6,000 rpm in fact the little old lady's passing me with their shopping carts gets a little embarrassing.

              Agree With Patrick

Case in point: 1965 365 SHP. Brand new resto, with new Quanta belts.

Shifted @ 6000 RPM, and my new alternator belt let go, wrapped itself around the lower rad hose. Cut the hose, and got coolant and rubber/cord fragments all over my beautifully restored engine compartment.
