While removing the console from my 1964 coupe with factory a/c and am/fm radio, I discovered a thick rubber block about 2" long, 1" wide and 1/2" thick with semi circle cut-outs on each end. Resembles a stubby letter "H" in a way. The block was lying on top of the transmission tunnel forward of the radio. Does anyone know what this Mystery Part is for?

Re: Mystery Part--1964 Coupe
Mike,
Holy Cow! I bet you're right. The throttle pedal spacer was "missing" when I bought the car. Guess it was misplaced during some prior restoration work. I was a little surprised when the replacement spacer I ordered was made out of cardboard--did not seem like a very practical design material from the factory. How nice to be able to replace a repo POS with an original part. I'm going to check it out tonight.

Re: Mystery Part--1964 Coupe
Bruce,
------Although your description does sound like a throttle-pedal spacer the original was indeed made out of pressed cardboard or something similar. Maybe someone made up the rubber one and then misplaced it? Farfetched as that would seem!..........Bill S- Top

Re: Mystery Part--1964 Coupe
Upon closer inspection, the rubber block is too thick to be a throttle pedal spacer. Its actually an inch thick, an inch wide and 1 3/4 long. The semi-circle cut-outs on each end have a radius of just under 1/2". I'm wondering if the block may be a spacer for some cables. The quest continues.
Interesting that the General used pressed cardboard for the spacer, or that a spacer was needed at all for that matter.
