Redline radials

I'm shopping for redline radials to use in place of the reproduction bias-plys that I have on my 68 with F-41 suspension. The 68-69 TM lists the "correct" replacement radial to be a P215 / 70R15 for Goodyear or Firestone.

So far I have only been able to find two suppliers with the "redline series": Coker, that supplies their own make (as well as Michelin redlines) and Diamondback Classics. I have also observed some redline radials up close and have noticed that the "stripe" is "raised" and not "indented" as they are on reproduction bias-ply redlines.

Does anyone have any experience with, brand/supplier preference, or info (pro or con) for the "redline series" radial? Thanks in advance. Tom #24014

I have a 1969 435 car and have used both firestone bias ply redlines and coker classic redline radials on my 67. All radials to my knowledge are raised. However you may want to call mershons world of cars. They have all of the goldlines and redlines put on radial tires for the cars they sell. The company they use, uses a tool to indent into the side of the tire and fills it somehow. I don't know how nice they look but I know that they have them done. Hope this helps you. jon herrick

Thanks Jon. I don't know why it did, but the raised stripe on the redline radials just sort of struck me as unusual. For radial tires I can understand it though. I must be too used to seeing the bias-ply stripe. Tom #24014

I have the diamondbacks on my 69', and found them to be an excellent tire. The tread pattern is much better than what I saw in the coker line. They ride and handle great. Why are you concerned about the raised stripe? If you want the original look buy the bias ply's. If your concerned about the ride & handling get the diamondbacks.

I have the diamondbacks on my 69', and found them to be an excellent tire. The tread pattern is much better than what I saw in the coker line. They ride and handle great. What is the actual brand name of the tires? Cooper? Dayton? Kelley? )I think those were the ones that were available when I last checked.)

Just two days ago at a local cruise night, I saw a '68 with Bridgestone radial redlines in a P215/65R15 size. I never caught up with the owner to get more info, but perhaps that is another brand you can try.

I bought them about a year or so ago. I have about 500 mi on them since my resto was completed. They are 215/70R/15's. I don't recommend anything bigger, as they fill the wheel wells nicely. He told me when I bought them they were Michelin's. My car is a 427 Tri-pow, and they handle the power great!

Thanks Joe and Carmen. That is some of the exact info I've been looking for.

It's just my nature to have a concern when I see something unusual to me, like the raised stripe. I'm not really concerned about the appearance as compared to bias-ply because I don't expect radials to appear original on my 68. I was more concerned about the "manufacturing" of the redline and if there is an affect on "function", which unless someone has some input about it, I seem confident there is not. It just appeared "unusual" to me, probably like I said, I'm just used to seeing the indented stripe of the bias-ply.
