Engine Code Suffix markings on Block

As I was cleaning up my block I found these markings - it wasn't until I flipped the engine over that it made sense. The stamp pad shows HC and the markings on the side of the block must have been an assembly line marking.

This isn't a Corvette block but it is used in a Corvette. I thought i'd share these pictures for anyone that was interested.

    Brian------

The yellow crayon-applied engine suffix code in the location that you have found is very common on original Flint-built small block engines.

Depending upon date code and other factors, this engine is a 250 or 275 hp 327 from the 65-68 period or a 250 hp 350 from 1969.

The "HC" engine suffix coe was used for full size passenger cars with 250/275 HP engines from 1965 through 1967. It was not used only for 1965.

Thanks for the reply, now just so I understand correctly the HC was not used in corvettes only passenger cars.

Thanks Joe, that is what I had been told in the past but wanted to be sure I heard right.
