    Time for New Plug Wires

Since the junk Lectric Limited repro plug wires on my '70 LT-1 are pretty much fried out, I am scoping around for some new wires. From your experience, are there any that you would recommend, or advise against? I want to use the factory routing, looms and shields....are there any sets that fit better than others, or should I get a universal set and custom-make my own? Do some brands work better with Transistorized Ignition better than others? Thanks in advance!

imake my own wire sets using packard 440 wire and the old ends off the lectric limitd crap sets. Your radio won't like the 440's(solid metal cores) but the accelerometer in your cranium will. mike

I took my junk Electric limited wires off and installed a set of high performance plug wires from CC. They are stock appearing, 7.0 mm black wires that are a perfect fit and carry a lifetime warranty. Since it is a big PIA to change the wires, I only want to do this job once. Small block part number 301161

You don't sound too impressed with Lectric Limited plug wires. I installed a set on my car. I guess I shouldn't expect much...? (except to please the judges) I know their battery cables won't stand much heat if they come in contact at all with the engine block.

the repo plug wires from lectric limited are carbon cored. it doesn't take much of a pull on the plug wire(as in changing plugs) to sever the carbon core at which point sufficient electrons cease to reach the plug and the mark 4 or sb chev will misfire. as long as you use them for judging purposes, remove the boots from the plugs with a tool that grasps the boot, not the plug wire. they may live a little longer. steel core plug wires won't break in two but radios don't care for them . Real corvettes don't need a radio anyway. mikie

I agree....I have had nothing but trouble since I got my repro, date-coded L-Limited plug wires....Mike, since I happen to enjoy listening to a solid-lifter Chevy at 5-6 grand more than the stupid radio, I took your advice and ordered the Packard Electric solid-core wires. One question...will there still be radio interference, even with all the ignition shielding on the car? Also, is it worth my while to use any of the aftermarket plug wire sleeves (Moroso, MSD, etc.) since I gotta crimp the boots on anyway? Never used 'em, and Chevy never used 'em, but.....?

depending of whether you use suppressors and whether they function, the radio will work but the amount of crackle(interefence) that you'll have to endure while listening to "Momma Hated Diesels" by commander cody will depend on the suppressors and the shielding. never tried the suppressor sleeve(assume you're refering to the metallic sleeves that the midyear big block plug wires enjoyed) but they can't help but improve radio reception. course, judges won't like to see c-2 plug wire sleeves on a c-1. mike
