    C3 ('71) Storage Box Question (re-posted)

There was a problem with viewers accessing my previous post-hope this one works. Here goes:

Has anyone had their jack compartment pull-out fiber box "re-flocked"? There is a fellow in NY who has an ad in Driveline- wondering if anyone has used his service, or if there are other recommendations.

My box is very solid and has a clear correct date code so I don't want to mess it up.

    THANKS

    Charlie,

If there is ANY chance of going for Star/Bowtie with your car, don't touch it.

Having said that, I think he does a nice job. But is it worth it for a point or two? That's up to you.

      Charlie,
Make sure that the edges of your storage box are still stiff and not soft-flimsy, as once they are soft it is hard to get them to look like new again.

Patrick- Yes, I hear you about the Star, so I may not have it re-done. Just kinda checking into it for now. It's one of those things that I shouldn't mess with, but bugs me.

Keep the one that you have for Bowtie Judging. If the appearance of it bothers you, find a decent one and send it to John and have him reflock it.

            Charlie,
Just go to a Rockler or any nice wood working store and buy the material and glue and do it your self. Directions come with the material. I did that to my 71 and it turned out great and I have not lost a point on it yet. (3 times) I wouldn't want to worrie about sending it out and having it lost or damaged in transit. Practic on a small shoe box if you scared till you get the hang of it. Super easy to do and it cost less than ten bucks.

Chasman- That sounds good. Not sure I'm going to do it yet (hope to enter Star Award judging where original condition is preferred), but that may be the method to use.

              THANKS

                Chas:
How ironic that you suggest the Rockler product. Yesterday I re-flocked the storage tray in my '69 with that system and it came out beautifully. It is inexpensive, easy to use and you don't have to send the part away and worry that it will be lost. Good suggestion!

                  Jeff,

Do you have a part number or further description of the Rockler product?

                  Thanks,

                    Patrick:
The product is called Suede Tex made by Don Jer products of Winnebago, IL. You need 3 parts. 1. The fibers are #40270 (this is for black); 2. The adhesive is #40288 (also black); and 3. Mini-flocker #28035. This is the application tool. It is 2 cardboard tubes with one fitting inside the other and one having holes at one end. This "sprays" the fibers onto the adhesive coated part. I did the rear window storage tray and used about a quarter of the fibers and adhesive.
