    Engine Block heater

Checked the archives and didn't find any reference, but I could have sworn I remember a post about GM engine block heaters. Does anyone else remember or was I just dreaming?

The engine block heater was RPO K05 on passenger cars, but it was never offered on Corvettes.

At least one year of Shark offered K05, 824 examples in 1969 at a whopping $10.05.

Can't imagine operating a Corvette in weather cold enough to need a block heater.........

Well, maybe not now, but in February of 1970 my wife and I drove our 69 to northern New Mexico and went skiing. Cold weather and lots of snow and it drove fine except for one icy curve where we almost slid off the side of a mountain.

Thought I would have to replace the driver's seat cover but there was no damage.

If it's cold enough to need a block heater, it's far too cold to go skiing

Funny I can't remember what kind of gasket is on the gas cap of my 1970, but I can remember driving it in -20F temperatures in Chicago in the winter of 1971/72. The shocks acted real stiff. Oh, and it has no block heater, and I wasn't going skiing.

The engine heater was offered as a DEALER option for any G.M Corvette or car. Made by CARTER having the carter name on them in the 50's and 60's. Because I drive my Corvette , even out of state , we visit friends that live in vary cold weather where their garage may not be heated or we leave it out side and run a electric cord to it. it not only keeps the engine warm but moisture from building even inside , I don't always trust the antifreeze

Oops! Yup, '69 was the only year K05 was offered in Corvettes.

I used to drive my '74 year round. Where I lived at the time we got very bad winters. One slippery, cold winter day I was aproaching a notorious hill on the road that traditionally was a b@$*ard on those days. Sure enough no cars were trying it and there was a bunch of 4x4's scattered around the bottom of the hill that had made the attempt and slid back down. I stuck the old Corvette into gear and motored right to the top! I think I made all those 4x4 guys look bad. I guess it was a combo of weight over the rear wheels, good tires and a bit of skill. I found that car to pretty good in those conditions.

My 66 used to be driven exclusively (she thought) by my mom. My buddy and I would push it out of the barn and down the lane and off into the countryside pretending that we were cool. One winter night we were rolling through the country and and came to a small curve. Car did a 360 on the ice and ended up heading down the road just like before. Very gently eased it home and pushed it back in the barn and never drove it on ice again. Sheer dumb luck that it came out of the spin heading in the right direction. Never told mom.
