Recently purchased a 69 with the original Rochester carb 750.Afer driving for about two months the float stuck had to tap the carb to release. Spoke to previous owner he said it happened to him once or twice in 11 years. Said he thought he had the "float set high".Is this a know problem? Any suggestions?

Re: 69 Rochester Carb
One possible cause is the original phonalic (sp?) floats soak up gasoline and will eventually sink, causing an over rich condition at first and flooding later.
I suggest you remove the carburator and rebuild it or get it rebuilt by an experienced quadrajet tech.
If you want it judged, bite the bullet and send it to one of the restoration services recommended by this group.

Re: 69 Rochester Carb
When you say that it stuck,I assume that you mean stuck closed with the needle preventing fuel from entering the bowl. I've seen this, but I don't know what causes this...my guess would be fuel deposits on the needle and seat. At any rate replacing the needle and seat assy is cheap and if you buy a kit it will come with it. The kits I have used always have had the instuctions and adjustments included so with basic mechanical skill it's a afternoon job.- Top

Q jets have a problem
with the plating coming off inside the fuel filter area, after the filter, and these small flakes sometime get into the needle and seat area causing flooding. i cover the bottom of the needle seat with a very fine screen to prevent these pieces form getting into the needle and seat area. also sometimes when people rebuild these carbs they hook the needle clip into one of the two holes in the float arm. this is a no no and will cause flooding.- Top
