I'd rather pay my thirty bucks a year to Norton (Symantec) and leave my computer set on "Automatic Live Update" (which updates almost every day to protect against the threats they found the previous day); they have an ARMY of software geeks working 24/7 developing virus-killers and providing them almost instantly to their customers every day. I doubt if the "free" virus programs have that kind of capability. Bought any Corvette parts lately that cost less than thirty bucks?

John: I agree with you that the $30/year is cheap insurance for the peace of mind and 24-7 protection you receive from Norton. The free versions available are generally bare bones systems and I agree with you that for the price you are paying $0, that there is no way the system can provide the level of protection that the Norton programs offer. Norton had virus definitions and protection updates out the day that the mydoom virus alert was announced. I doubt the free versions providied that. I think it is a case of you get what you paid for.
