    67 Plug Shield Bracket Color?

In restoring the ignition shielding on my 67 327/350, the plug shield brackets (all 8) were a bit rusty, but cleaned up pretty well. Is there a color they could/should be painted to preserve them in the future? Or should I leave them to rust again? I don't remember them as showing much before, but I want them to be right. Scott

Your choice of Cad, (very Likely) Zinc (possible) or Tin platings, all are to some degree a bright, silvery finish. In the Mid-60's Cadmium was commonly used. Not generally used today due to health hazards in Plating Processes.

Thanks Bil, for your help. I just painted my thermostat housing (aluminum intake manifold) with Alumiblast silver. Would this color be appropriate for the brackets?

            Hi Mr. Landis!

The plug shield supports (that bolt to the exhaust manifold) will rust again if you use the car, regardless of what you paint/plate with. As shall the bolts/washers; I used to paint mine with a VHT high-temp clear coating - which seemed to postpone the inevitable slightly - but left a different texture & slightly to shiny finish. If you are planning on showing the car, you shall probably need to replate (I seem to remember some little detail - a stmaping? - on the reproductions that is not the same as factory). If not showing, Paragon used to manufacture these brackets in stainless steel specifically to combat this problem.
