    Engine Stamp/Pad Clean-up

I didn't know at the time and the pad on my rebuilt engine got painted. I cleaned it off with a razor but there is still some paint down in the letters/numbers. I'm inclined to leave it rather than screw it up. Suggestions or opinions?

    As always, thanks...

    Joe..

VIN-3119761, Build Date-F0708, and RF code for Fuelie.

Paint remover(gel) with a small paint brush or cue tip.

      Joe,

Some lacquer thinner and a Q-tip won't hurt anything. If this doesn't work move into the "heavy duty" mode with some paint stripper followed by more lacquer thinner and a Q-tip.

Just apply judicously so as to not get any on your good paint.

If you still have paint remaining, go into "super duty" mode with a toothpick.

        Joe,

Don't worry about it. Do you think the factory worried about a little paint in the stamp? They just did a swipe with a rag and thinner and walked away.

          Joe,

------Strip all paint off entire motor and start over. Better yet start the whole restoration over!.....Please accept this as my humble suggestion!
------Now I know why stock values of the Q-Tip corporation have had a significant upsurge........Bill S

Another option is an old toothbrush.

DO NOT use anything that's in any way abrasive; if you introduce any kind of marks on the surface other than the original longitudinal broach marks (which may or may not still be visible), it'll cost you a cool 38 points, even with an original pad and stampings.

Wow! That wouldn't really happen during judging would it? 38 points off for scratches? What if the pad was scratched before the car left St. Louis?

Seems to me an all or nothing 38 points for pad condition is a little harsh.

Honey, could you please throw me down the q-tips and the toothpicks? Oh, might as well throw your nail polish remover with it. Please hurry, this is very important....

Thanks for the info and suggestions everyone. Wayne, thanks for having my heart skip a beat.
