    Wheel code help....

Hi....I need a little help deciphering some codes on 15 x 8 wheels. The one code doesn't sound right .....
    A...K 10 10 hole 15A...Oct 15, 1970?
B...K 187 (but the 8 looks a LOT more like a "B") 7 hole 23. Any help would be very appreciated. Did they stamp some of them with "alpha" codes?

Bruce, on wheel (A), your dating is correct, but there should be a "Z" following the "A". The 15 X 8 rally wheel code is "AZ"; the "AZ" should be separated from the day "15" slightly. This wheel probably came off an early 71.

Wheel (B) appears to be a latter day Kelsey-Hayes service replacement wheel available from dealers or Corvette vendors. I am not sure, but I believe the "87" would be the year of manufacture; single digit years would have begun to get pretty confusing after 78. Other date features are the same as the earlier wheels. Is there no "AZ" stamped on this wheel?

Both wheels are stamped "AZ". I'm still confused on the "8" or the "B". I'll have to get a magnifying glass and check.
I'll get back to you and let you know.........

I have a pair of spare AZ rims from 1988 and the date code reads K1 88 month day.

Chuck....I took the magnifying glass out to have a look. The "8" is a little lobsided, but it definitely is an "8". So the one rim reads K 187. Is this a service wheel from 87 0r 88? Any comments...?

Definitely a service wheel made by Kelsey-Hayes (OEM for Corvette rally wheels) on July 23, 1987. See Mark's comments above. K=Kelsey-Hayes; 1=Chevrolet; 87=year of manufacture.

I also own such a wheel about the same vintage that I bought new in the early-mid nineties from a Corvette vendor. They are OK for judging if mounted on the car such that the trim ring covers the date stamp. The spare wheel (no trim ring) will need to be dated appropriately if your car is being judged.
