    Fan Clutch # Help

Can somebody tell me the correct part number for a fan clutch for a 1967 427/400 A.I.R. car? The AIM shows #3814560 and opt. #3814137, but does not state for which engine. Also what is the difference between the two?

    Earl-----

GM #3814560 and GM #3814137 are both small block fan clutches. They were not used on big blocks. One of these is an Eaton-manufactured unit and the other is a Switzer-manufactured unit. Either one could have been used in PRODUCTION for 1967 small blocks, but I think that the 3814560 is the more common.

The big block fan clutch for 1967 was of GM #3857531. I think that this is an Eaton-manufactured unit with a coil spring type thermostat. I can't otherwise describe it to you, though.

      Joe,

Thanks for the help. I figured if you saw the post I would get the right number.

      Thanks again

By the way, you won't find the GM part number on any fan clutch that I've ever seen. The most that you'll find is an ink-stamped broadcast code (if it hasn't long-departed). The broadcast code may not always be specific to a certain GM part number. It was designed to allow the assembly line folks to know what part to install for a certain application. If multiple parts could be used interchangeably for a certain application, all of those might have the same broadcast code. The idea was to keep things simple and NOT make things more complicated.
