Is there a way to find out what a vette was originaly by the Vin # alone. The block has been changed but a lot of the features seem to point to a L-72. T.I ignition, J-56 H.D racing option F-41 H.D. suspension. high redline tach, and high pressure oil gauge. Vin #s 194676S113011. Any help would be appreciated.

For the 1955 to 1971 period, there is NO way to discern from the VIN number what engine was originally installed in a Corvette. Coding of the engine into the VIN number did not begin until 1972 (just about the time that it really no longer mattered).
If the optional equipement that you described was all ORIGINALLY INSTALLED on the car, then the engine had to have been an L-72. "ORIGINALLY INSTALLED" are the operative words here. Anything can be later ADDED to a Corvette. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
