I have a Q-Jet number 1029207 carb with a 34 and 4 under the manufacturer number. Is this off of a corvette? It was removed from a 1968 corvette and is known not to original to that car. Thanks.

Re: Corvette Carburetor
Prior to 1976 Corvette (and Chevy) Q-Jet part numbers were of '70xxyyy' format where xx indicated application and year and yyy represented the specific feature function (automatic trans, manual trans, and so on). In '76 the part number format changed indicating an across the board Q-Jet internal design difference to "170xxyyy". The number you cite is FAR different from factory original Chevy/Corvette sequences....- Top

Re: Corvette Carburetor
Jack, if you look at the number more closely, could it actually be 7029207? This was originally the carb used on a '69 L46 engine with manual transmission. This same number was widely used as a service replacement carb, which would appear the case here with the 34 4 date code possibly indicating the 34th day of 1974.

Re: Corvette Carburetor
No, not exactly.
Imagine the carburetor line at the Rochester plant building carbs in 1969. One ends up on your Corvette, just as you'd expect.
Now imagine this build line continuing to make this EXACT SAME version of the carburetor for years and years. (Twilight zone? Actually as mentioned by others they continued until the late 90s to make this version of the Q-jet) Someone in late 1974 (or early 75?) then happens to buy a new one for your car. Why not? It's the correct carb, and as it was easier to buy a new one than restore an old one at that time, it went on.
So, if your 1969 is a 350hp, 350CID L-46 motor, you have a "number matching" carb with the EXCEPTION of the date. It is of 1969 Corvette configuration, not generic Chevy passenger car configuration.
I hope that helps.
