    1970 Q-Jet Numbers

    Hi all,

I have a '70 350/350 which needs a new carb. The Q-Jet that is on the car has a model number of 17057213AWP on it with 0687 stamped underneath it. Since my reference material shows this to be the incorrect carb (not original), I purchased a remanufactured Q-Jet from a local parts store. That carb has the model number as 7040202 on it which according to my books was the correct carb for a '70 350/300 auto. Is this carb a direct replacement for my '70 350/350 manual? The parts store says that it is. I know it is not the correct numbered carb, but will it perform correctly? Thanks for all the help.

Checking the '70 service manual, the specs are generally the same, same jet size etc. there are some minor tuning differences, dashpot settings which you might want to adjust on your new carb, but it will "work" fine.

Stating your intentions (what's the end game?) and more specifics of your car will help us advise you....

In '70 there were TWO OF EVERYTHING in carb land. That was the year California 'split' with the rest of the 49-state Federal community and put their own emisssions legislation into effect. GM responded by offering each Corvette (as well as passenger cars) in 49-state and California configuration (the Cal option was NA9).

So, to really get into gear with your question, you need to tell us if this is an NA9 (California car) or not as well as it's VIN/build date because there were running changes on carbs for both Cal as well as 49-state configuration. Last, what's the end game? Do you want to restore/maintain to factory concours (how seriously?) or do you just want to drive the vehicle?
