It appears that the gas level sending unit in my 55 vette is kaput. (Wrong readings). I thought I read somewhere that you could use a 55 truck or car sender. Obviously originality is not an issue as you can't see it. What is the best fix for this problem and where can I purchase a unit. Thanks

Re: HELP -- ROY BRATZ OR WHOEVER
Well, I'm sure no 55 expert, but there are some some things that can be repaired on your sender. If the gauge consistantly reads too high or low, you can bend the float to get it closer. The gauge will give a faulty reading if the sender is not grounded real well. I assume the sender is different from the 56-62 sender? If your car is a 12V model, can a 56-62 sender be adapted? I dunno, just asking.- Top

I have truck gauge and sender...
About 20 years ago my gauge and sender went up in smoke, so I pulled the sender and gauge guts out of a 50-something Chevy truck. The only difference was the rheostat insude the sender. The truck rheostat is the same from full to empty, but the Vette sender rheostat was tapered at the bottom. This is because the Vette tank is tapered at the bottom. Everything works perfectly now, except the last 1/4 on the gauge is really about 1/8, so I have to be a little careful on road trips.- Top
