    C2 SEAT SLIDE SPRING ASSEMBLY

1965 RAGTOP - DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL THE SPRINGS THAT FIT AROUND THE TUBES ON EACH OF THE SEAT SLIDE RAILS? IS THERE A SPECIAL/SIMPLE TECHNIC? EACH SIDE HAS TWO SPRINGS PER SLIDE FOUR PER SEAT. THE NEW SPRINGS FIT EXACTLY IN THE SLIDE SLOT AS WHERE THE OLD ONES WERE A SLIGHT BIT SHORTER. HOW MUCH GREASE IS RECOMMENDED? IT APPEARS YOU HAVE TO GREASE THE SLOT OPENING PRIOR TO INSERTING THE SPRING AND TRACK BACK INTO THE SEAT FRAME.

This was a 2 person job for my wife and I a couple months ago. One person holds the frame and the other inserts the slide assembly. We found that by wrapping the spring around the slide slot just before inserting it into the frame it worked rather easily. Then, regroup for the second spring.

I also looked around for recommendations on grease and the proper amount with little success. White lithium grease seemed to be the grease of choice for seat slides. I coated the parts liberally, but not to the point of packing in the grease. So far, none seems to be leaking out.

Now we're to the point of stretching the new seat covers over the foam and frame assembly which will be another story.

      Joe,
I feel your pain. I had the same problem last winter, and my wife also helped me. It does seem to be be a two person job to get the little springs to stay tight around the tubes while inserting them into the brackets. I have a feeling the repro springs are stiffer than the originals. If someone has the trick on this one they aren't ready to share it. I also used the white lithium grease seems to be working fine.
