I totally agree with Jim----I do not recommend the use of these tools to grease the rear wheel bearings for exactly the reasons that Jim stated.
However, there is another problem with this method even if one disregards all of the other reasons for not using it. This involves the often overlooked problems created by mixing different types of grease. When you grease the wheel bearing using the tool, you not only leave the old grease in the assembly, but you often don't know what type of grease was last installed. Greases have a variety of different bases. Some are molybdenum, some are aluminum, some are lithium, and some are otherwise. Mixing greases of different bases can cause significant lubricating deficiencies in a high speed, high heat assembly like wheel bearings.
