C1 Window regulator

Some teeth are missing on the gear for the window regulator. I see in the catalogs that a new gear can be ordered. How difficult a job is it to replace? I can get the regulator out, is the gear riveted on? Is this the way to go or should I keep looking for the whole unit? Thanks in Advance for any and all info.

if you're handy with a mig welder you can weld up new teeth then grind to shape. other alternative is to scrounge junk yards for 4 door GM cars of the 50's for a window regulator. then cut out damaged area on your regulator then splice in a piece of the 4 door regulator with your mig welder. if you dodn't have a mig welder, have the wife get you one for valentines day. you'll love both of 'em. mike

Replacing with a new gear is easy. You will need access to a welded however. To remove the old gear. both the rivet and the spring (slotted) arbor can be removed by grinding them flush and punching them out. Mount the new gear and weld the rivet and slotted spring arbor in place. Reassemble the spring and you are done. While you have the Regular out, check the condition of the rollers. As a added note, If you order a new gear from Paragon, I believe they include a new Rivet. Good to check on this ?
