    1966 carpet cutout pattern

The carpet in my 1966 convertible was incorrectly installed at the time of restoration. The overlapping flaps hinge from the front of the front seat support rather than from the inside of the seat, as per the Manual. Does anyone have the correct cutout pattern for the carpet for a 66 convertible? Also, does anyone have any ideas on recutting, regluing, or somehow properly restoring my otherwise good carpet? Thanks! Jack Gotcher

    Jack,

Unfortunately I don't know where you might find a "pattern" for your 66 carpets. Usually it is recommended to keep the "old" carpet until you have new ones in place, which obviously doesn't help your situation.

I have observed carpet installers and have partially tried what you are asking for repair. I used a "backing" that is of similar quality to the old "gunny-sack"(?) material and a strong bonding carpet/fabric glue to hold the piece in place. This would be in place of what carpet installers use as a "heat" process to bond pieces together. I haven't tried cutting the repaired piece but I have found my repair capable of that. The other thing you might investigate is contacting a carpet supplier and find out their information or process for bonding carpet. Hope this can help. Tom #24014
